Pictures from Space

Mizzou-The Men of Engineering community in Wolpers Residence Hall had a weather balloon building competition this semester that commenced on May 3rd. Students were asked to design and build a balloon apparatus that could hold a gps system to track the balloon and a digital camera to take pictures of the curvature earth.

Tim Heisel, one of the students involved in the project, talked about the launch experience.

“We launched from Andrew Perry’s Farm just outside of Columbia MO and recovered the package about an hour and half away just outside of Herman, MO and about 10 miles from Logan Forsythe’s farm. The balloon traveled 45.1 miles latterly. Unfortunately we are not sure how much altitude it gained over the entire trip because cell phone reception has limits and did not transmit above 10,034 feet. The round trip lasted 1 hour and 34 minutes. The fastest tracked speed was 42 miles per hour. We estimate that it reached around 80 to 90 thousand feet.”

The pictures are truly amazing. Great job, guys!

Enjoy!

In our country, we witness jubilation over Bin Laden’s death, which shows that justice is written on the hearts of men and women who are created in the likeness of God, who’s a just God. It’s important to grieve that Osama was opposed to Jesus and, as far as we can tell, didn’t know him, and will be separated forever from him. Simultaneously, we can rejoice that a disgusting evil has been done away with on earth and God will be his Judge.
